Is Cannabutter Healthy? The Plug Cookies

The Plug Cookies

Different types of edibles use various types of cannabis extractions. One type of extraction is cannabutter. We use all-natural butter in all of our edibles at The Plug Cookies. But there are some things you should keep in mind the next time you purchase one of our products or another cannabis edible.

What is Cannabutter?

As you might expect, cannabutter is a cross between cannabis and butter. Cannabutter is typically used to create baked infused treats like cookies, brownies, and other desserts. You’ll find two compounds in cannabutter: THC and CBD. These compounds are referred to as cannabinoids, and they’re responsible for the effects you feel from consuming edibles.

THC provides psychoactive and cerebral effects, while CBD doesn’t alter your mental state and provides body relief. Depending on the product, edibles with cannabutter can contain both compounds or just one.

Is Cannabutter Safe?

It’s perfectly safe to consume cannabutter, but there are some key elements you should consider beforehand.

Cannabutter is different from smoking or vaping. Edible cannabis products are much more potent than these methods, and it’s crucial to select the correct dosage. It can also be challenging to determine the dosage of a product, especially if they’re made at home.

Edible cannabis goods produce effects that typically last longer than smoking or vaping because the THC is metabolized in a different way. The effects from edibles can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to set in and peak around two to four hours. But this will significantly depend on your body, weight, metabolism, tolerance, and how much you eat.

Smoking or vaping cannabis can produce effects in much shorter time frames and typically takes around 20-30 minutes. It’s easy to overdo products containing cannabutter because they’re so delicious. That’s why it’s important to practice restraint and keep a few safety precautions in mind.

Start Slow to Be Sure!

Products containing cannabutter can be extremely delicious, but they can also be incredibly potent. Because cannabis edibles have a slow onset, it’s best to start slow and see how a product affects you before going forward.

Ensure you’re watching your dosage, regardless of your tolerance level. Newcomers can feel significant effects from as little as 10mg of THC. It’s best to take less than you usually would to see how you feel. Remember: less is more, and you can always add on but not take away.
